Renewable energy surge is 'a win-win scenario'

The recent surge in renewable energy from wind will deliver benefits on a range of levels.
This is according to Nick Medic, head of communications at RenewableUK.
He said: "On the one hand, it's contributing towards our carbon reduction targets; on the other it's basically assuring our energy security, our domestic source of fuel that can actually be cheaper than fossil fuels; and on the third hand we're looking at jobs and economic benefits."
Mr Medic was commenting on recent figures from the European Wind Energy Association, which revealed that offshore wind is heading for a record year in 2010.
There have already been 118 new offshore wind turbines connected to the grid in the first six months of the year.
Wind energy is increasingly becoming the largest source of renewable energy in Europe.
The European Commission revealed earlier this month (July 5th) that wind farms accounted for 38 per cent of new renewable energy capacity installed in 2009.
