The Barclays Cycle Hire scheme has welcomed more than 12,000 pioneer members today (July 30th).
Developed by London mayor Boris Johnson, the scheme aims to promote the capital as a cleaner and more environmentally-friendly city.
Docking stations are located across the centre of the town "from Notting Hill Gate to Wapping" and "from Regents Park to Borough Market".
Marcus Aguis, chairman of Barclays, commented: "Barclays Cycle Hire is a flagship scheme that will change the face of London forever.
"We believe there are huge benefits for the public in a low cost, affordable, sustainable and environmentally friendly scheme. It will introduce thousands of people to one of the cleanest, greenest and quickest ways of navigating the city."
A membership key costs £3, while membership itself costs £1 for 24-hours of use, £5 for seven days or £45 for an annual membership.
There are more than 315 docking stations based every 300 metres around the city, offering a total of 5,000 bikes for hire.
